I've been told that I don't pay enough attention to detail when I am working and not proactive enough. I really want to improve this before I move into my next job. What is the best way for me to sort this out so that in future people will never know?

I'll let you in on a little secret. There is no way for your new employer to know how you really performed on your last job. Nowadays almost no company is going to give a bad reference for fear of a law suit. The most any company will give is to confirm your dates of employment.

So, the way a company judges how you performed at your last job is by how you conduct yourself at the job interview. This means that you should concentrate your efforts on doing well at the interview and don't worry about your work habits until after you get the job. Good luck!

How will future employers know beforehand? If your current employer has todl you these things that you need to change, they can not really reveal this to future emplyoers who inquire about you. They only can say whether or not you worked for them and how your attendance was. They can not say anything negative about you. So..therefore, you need to change BEFORE you get the new job. Try lookin at a local community college for basic career course works..these can help with being more efficeint at the workplace. Not being 'proactive' enough is basically a nice way of saying you might somewhat 'lazy' in the workplace. Look to change that by being more upbeat (fake it if you have to), ask questions to management and other employers, if you have no work to do one day, ask for things, ask for busy work. You can overcome what weaknesses others say that you have. It's easy and worthwhile. goodluck.

Keep an open line of communications open when working with others affected by the project.
Ask is it right would you do it differently, do you have sugggestions, am I missing anything

Plan out the project from beginning to end, what is the goal, how do I get to the goal.
Learn from your mistakes
