im currently coming to the end of my detox and the doctor has assured me that its safe to conceive, i just wanted to know what other people think.can it actually happen or does methadone make me infertile, all views will be read,thanx

STOKIE just because uve experienced wrong doings by other users it doesnt mean we r all the same,yes im sorry that happened 2 u but how do u no it was a heroin user? not all people who burgle houses r junkies ur so narrowminded,every1 wished me well 4 getting away from that life,what do u do insult me,dont take ur anger out on me saying 1 of my lot spoilt xmas 4 ur kids,maybe ur fella owed money 2 loan shark? my point is it doesnt mean every robbery is commited by a user the majority maybe but let me asure u, il be a gtreat mother maybe i need time 4 me 1st but i will be a fantastic mother,better than u cause i wont teach my child 2 b narrowminded like u teach urs.

my first thought is that you need to focus on getting yourself completely health & happy. if you are still in detox you have no business even thinking about bringing a child into your world. why do you want a child right now? is it becuse you have no drugs to occupy you and you are yearning for something? im just asking. sometimes it takes people being frank with you for you to see the whole picture. this just doesnt seem healthy to me.
concentrate on yourself for another year. make sure its what you want. make sure to seek therapy also. addiction is a disease and you need help mentally to recover also.

Firstly , excuse me if i appear rude BUT please do not consider conception now , u may have finished ur detox but it doesn`t guarantee you staying clean . If you remain drug free for the next 2 years i wouldn`t have a problem with this Q but you need to let your body and mind heal before even considering bringing a baby into your life and also consider the babies life should you relapse , i really hope you don`t . Having a baby to look after 24/7 is extremely stressful , they can cry non stop how would you cope ? What would you do to de-stress yourself ? It isn`t fair on babies or kids who have addicts as parents , to consider pregnancy to me is selfish , give yourself a chance !

Wait until your off this drug and wait some more after that. Don't even think about having a child until you have lived a normal/healthy life for at least a year or two. It's your right to have a child now, but be smart and get your life back on track before you make this decision.

Methodone will not make you infertile, but for your own benefit you may want to give yourself a few months after being weaned off of it before you conceieve. Not so much for the baby's health, but for your own well being. It sounds like you've had to handle alot of life transitions that take alot of character and strength to achieve (congrats!), and the first months of pregnancy can be SO hard and emotional. Why not give yourself a little time to just feel fantastic and in control of your self and body before life challenges you with chanes again? You deserve it, sister!

First, I want to congratulate you for going to detox and completing it. Methadone won't make you infertile but there may be complications if you conceive before a year after you have stopped using. Taking a year to get your body back into shape will help decrease birth defects. I wish you the best of luck and if you do have a baby I hope he/she is a beautiful healthy baby.

first off methadone is the same thing as heroine.you wouldnt try to concieve while on heroine would you?i would wait till you can be sober without the methadone and then try to concieve.babys born to mothers who use methadone have withdraws from it. though it is better than having a baby addicted to heroine but then what isnt.best of luck in your recovery and i hope you take the time to care for yourself first.

Yes you can get pregnant safely if your doctor says you're now okay to.
I know this wasn't your question.. but do you honestly think now is a good time? You've just come through a hell of a journey, I really think some headspace would be a good thing before you start on the baby train. You need to know your coping skills are okay in daily life before trying to cope with daily life plus baby.

I don't think this is the best time for that. We take simple medication and we wait that they are out of our system completely in order to get pregnant. Let alone the psychological burden. wait till the end of your detox, relax a bit, and when everything has settled, then start trying to conceive.

You can get pregnant, but there can be complications and if the program isnt over by the time the baby is born there is a fair chance of addiction. Good work on kicking the habit though, thats awesome!
