I believe 14 is the suggested minimum, but if you do a very quick glance with 12 you should be okay.

Briefly. When you weld you don't emit ultra violet rays as tricky as the Suns. When you wear sun protection for you eyes , you're shadowing the eye which causes the pupil to dialate. This is fine if your shades have the proper UV protection. If they don't, you're widening your pupils allowing more area of your eye to be burned by the suns UV rays and any other harmful rays. Why risk it? Heven't you heard, it isn't wise to try to fool Mother-Nature.

Hi. I agree. Number 14 allows unlimited time but number 12 is OK for a brief time (seconds). Do not take chances with your vision. Use two stacked 12s if you must.
