My husband just graduated from pharmacy school in May. School was pretty hard, he had to study A LOT. I think in the long run its really worth it though. The pay is pretty nice once you're finished with it all. Just remember, being a pharmacist isn't always about working retail (Walgreens). There are plenty of hospital jobs out there where you deal with patients on a daily basis. My husband meets one on one with patients daily and loves everything about it. He would never say that his job is boring. I do have friends that work retail though and they also really like that. They do complain though that sometimes they feel like they're not using their education fully.

Pharmacy school is a tough set of courses. You can't make it through unless you are a well-oprganized, serious student who can survive tough classes.

There are many different ways to be a pharmacist. You can work in, or manage, a community pharmacy, or work in a nursing home, or in a hospital, a research facility, a public health planning office in government, or be a business person in a pharmaceutical or health management company.l

The pay is excellent and you earn a lot of respect and prestige from your associates. Since this is true, the number of applicants for pharmacy schools is very large, and the number of places for students is small. Our local school had over 1000 applicants for 90 spaces last year according to a recent article in the paper. The pharmacy students are the best students on campus - highest SAT scores, best GPAs etc,,, higher even than engineers or premeds.
