He needs to discuss this with the physician who prescribes his BP meds. It's sometimes possible to switch meds and eliminate his erectile dysfunction (ED) and maintain adequate blood pressure control. Also, if he's a candidate, his physician may prescribe him an ED medication such as Cialis or Viagra. Most importantly, express to your boyfriend that his blood pressure control is of utmost importance to his longterm health. Uncontrolled hypertension can lead to kidney failure, blindness, stroke, death, and even erectile dysfunction.

He should talk to his doctor and either have the medication changed to another or have the dosage reduced. Then he should be looking into additional ways to keep his blood pressure down -- in addition to taking pills: A walking program, other forms of exercise, cutting down on salt intake, cutting down on alcohol consumption, etc.

Good luck. In this day and age, most men should not have to suffer through impotence because of the high blood pressure meds they are taking.

It needs to be engorged with blood to become hard. Blood pressure medications are famous for causing E.D. (eructile disfunction). He could switch to another one that causes other problems like depression or see site below for info on how to cure hypertension (high blood pressure).

Sorry it won't be as easy as just taking some nutritional supplement but it works. The info is from an Ivy League M.D.

It's not only the hypertension & the drugs which prevent him from gettin it up. It's simply aging- the male loses his virility & the batteries run down.

I have high BP but won't take any drugs. I have same problem as him - but I blame my age and now I'm gone through my andropause. This happens to all men, honey. It ain't NO DIFFERENT from the womens' menstruation & ovulation, they start at puberty & ends at menopause. SAME WITH MENS' VIRILITY. the erection & libido don't last forever, you understand. they start at puberty and gradually wind down at andropause. There's a biological clock in the man's body which controls this and no doctor can reverse it with no Rx.

Viagra is s-h-i-t and so are the other meds. High blood pressure makes it worse cause the arteries get constricted and blood flow through them gets restricted - that INCLUDES THe ARTERY FEEDING BLOOD TO HIS PENIS. But guys can have perfect BP and still have impotence.

this happens to men since the ancient days of the Pharaohs of Egypt - they freaked out when couldn't get it up anymore. and no magic wand can fix this.

Welcome to life.

You are to be commended on your concern and your desire to help...

Send him to his doctor to discuss the problem frankly, and ask for different medications. Many blood pressure meds do lead to temporary ED, and the doctor will be ready for the questions.
While he's there, have the doc check for other possible causes - low testosterone, for example, and advise on things like Viagra, Cialis, Levitar, etc.

Exercise can also help, in two ways... it lowers your BP, reducing the need for medication, and improves cardiovascular health, which is always good thing, especially in terms of your sex life.

He really needs to discuss the problem with his doctor who is familiar with his medical history and is qualified, trained, and licensed to give medical advice. People on this site are not. There may be a switch in his medication which will help. Ask the doctor.
