My husband and I are in our early 30's and are looking to build our dream home (8000 sq. ft) somewhere in Arizona. We would rather the subdivision be on the newer side. We loved master-planned communities too. But, we do not like contemporary architecture. Any suggestions? If money were no object, what city and development/subdivision would you build a new home in?

Personally, I would build my dream home in one of the newer areas of Scottsdale. There are several which do not use contemporary architecture.

Depends on how much money you're looking to spend. But I would probably buy in Fountain Hills (north / north-east of Scottsdale) and just demolish the house on the lot and then build my dream home. Then you just deal with city codes and such and don't have to deal with the requirements of an HOA...as you would in a master-planned community.
