I'm retired now, so no more meetings, thank God!
I used to get through them by forcing myself to stay engaged and actively participate. When things would drag on, I'd ask for a resolution and try to detail action steps and the metrics we'd use to measure progress.
By the way, you don't need to be the boss to do this, (if you use diplomacy). But if you get good at it, you may be the boss someday!

Coffee, sugar... that will help temporarily but then you will crash big time later. Fruit can give you a more sustained energy, but the best thing of course is to get 8 hrs sleep a night and eat a healthy diet. Avoid big lunches, they make you tired. Opt for whole grains and veggies and frequent healthy snacks to keep your energy up throughout the day. Also, taking a break for a 5 or 10 minute walk will help, and exercising for 30 minutes or more several times a week is even better.

Continually eat mints or candy like they are going out of style. If you have a drink take a small sip every minute on the minute so that you have to stay alert in order to not miss one HAHA Or if you have a notepad for taking notes angle it where no one can see and create a masterpiece of doodles that really takes attention to detail. Your focus on the detail will keep you awake.

I feel your pain. Once at a meeting, my coworker fell asleep and started snoring. Luckily, noone heard but me so I was able to elbow him to wake him up before the CEO saw. I'm not a coffee drinker so before meetings, I drink an energy drink but some of my co-workers who drink coffee would drink a cup before th emeeting and sip on a cup of coffee during the meeting. Hope this helps.

I had this problem too, I would yawn every minute. What helped me was crossing my legs in a way that was different than I usually did, being uncomfortable helps to stay awake.

I drink coffee. I don't normally drink coffee, so I get ultra-wired! Then I think happy funny thoughts like watching Beavis and Butthead and how "I need TP TP TP!" Then I nod and say, "yes, that's a GREAT idea!" to any questions people ask me. Since most people don't ask me questions, this usually works.

Take Deep Breaths and breath out through your mouth, they say that when we Yawn, the Brain Needs Oxygen to make us feel Alert. I have the Same problem myself at meetings ! I have even taken Cold-Wet Paper Towels and periodically apply them to my forehead and face, this works for me also..Good luck!!

What I do is get those glasses with the nose and mustache and the covered eyes where it looks like you are still awake then sleep right through it.
