he does not deserve it, what is he really saying? i insisted so i will give him a beautiful gift (an ipod... he doesn't know this) but what did he mean....i know he doesn't have money to get me anything......i don't care ......he's been a great friend to me especially when i was down and heart broken.....is it embarrassing to him or what?......... i do not want to make this an issue for him ...........i love him......right now he is struggling with money...... but he is rich with love......is the gift giving worth it?

It means that he is not interested in getting a present from you. Listen to him, he is right. If you have to give him a gift, make it something inexpensive. Otherwise he will think you are trying to 'buy' his affection, which will make him resent you, and then ruin your friendship. Since you say you don't want to make an issue of it, don't give him an expensive (more than $10.00) present.

Oh, he sounds sweet. He is probably really embarassed about his lack of funds. I don't know if giving him such a nice gift will thrill him or embarass him. It's your call. Give it to him and make a joke like "I want a car when you make the first million" so he doesn't feel ashamed. Good luck.
