I'm not a Southerner but I know that Kentucky is a Southern State. I lived there for awhile, trust me, they speak with a deep southern accent.

No, I would think they would only consider "Southern States" the ones that are along the southern coast line, but that's me!

Yes, in terms of slavery. But its kinda central north east.

Texas is the only perfectly southern situate state. - no north, no east, just plain old SOUTH.
