Yes, I am a virgin. I'm 23. I finally decided to go and get a pelvic exam and pap test. The doctor was a female and she was nice and explained about the pelvic exam before she sat down to start.

She used the speculum with lube and inserted it. When she did I had the worst pain. She didn't say anything - but I spoke up and said "ouch, that stings and hurts so bad". She said yes, that is normal. It hurt much worse than what other women have described to me? After she was done she said there was some blood and to wear a panty liner.

I'm home now but it is still a tiny bit sore and some bleeding. Is it normal for it to hurt so badly? I mean, I have used tampons before and it didn't hurt that bad.

It can hurt however your vagina is naturally stretchy to accommodate penetration, if a girl or woman has problems with vaginismus or if she is in pain from the examination the person doing the examination should stop and try to make them more comfortable by reassuring you or using smaller equipment otherwise arrange for another appointment – they should NOT carry on.

I would strongly recommend you go back to where you had your pelvic/pap done and put in a formal complaint about how you were treated, unfortunately a lot of girls and women are under the impression that anything to do with that part of their body almost should be painful, it shouldn't, so she may have done the same to other people.

I'm sorry this first experience was a bad one for you hun, I normally quite like them as it means I get to ask questions etc, I've certainly never had pain during any of my exams, and I've had a lot from the age of 15 to my current age of 23 (virgin or not, makes no real difference), but the person doing your exam was defiantly in the wrong.

If you have got not ever been sexually energetic then you definately are not looking for a smear experiment. It's to become aware of irregular cells at the cervix precipitated by means of the HPV virus that's sexually transmitted. Once you begin having intercourse you do have got to have smear exams, it is central that you simply do given that HPV can motive irregular cells which might result in melanoma. Don't panic despite the fact that as though demonstrated almost always the cells are eliminated and all is good. Pap smears aren't too dangerous, only a small scratch, and you can also now not even believe that.

Your doctor may have been a bit rough with inserting a speculum. That happens especially if you tighten up and it is worse for virgins. Pain and bleeding results.

When I was a virgin, that happened to me at every visit. The best I can tell you is to stretch yourself out a bit with a couple of fingers now and up to your next visit. That helps some. Also try to relax more as much as you can. Sometimes we tighten up there without realizing it at the exam.

It still occasionally happens if I am a bit tight when I go (I'm married and no longer a virgin). But I have a lot less pain now that I'm not a virgin.

It hurt me the first several years that I went when I was still a virgin. I used to cry every time....

There are different sizes of the tools that they use. The last test I had, they used a speculum that was way TOO big. It hurt like nothing I'd ever experienced. Sometimes the doc needs to make in your notes that you need a smaller instrument.

It sucks...but, it's necessary...I'm sorry that you had to go through that!!!!

It sounds like she used too large a speculum and/or was too rough. I had a doc insist on doing a pelvic once when I had a bladder infection.I should have said no. Years later, I am still afraid to get a pelvic.

I've been getting yearly paps done since I was 14 years of age, and I'm now 35. I can honestly say that not once in 21 years have I ever felt discomfort let alone outright pain. And no, pain that severe is not normal.
