The back door situation is common on astros, I've had to remove the inner panel to get at the linkage to get em open. Supposedly you can do some creative drilling from outside to get them also. If the regular taillights work when the headlights are on I would suspect a problem with dimmer switch or circuit.

If you bought the van in the past 48 hours, take it back and negotiate a fix, otherwise, take it to a auto electrical shop to have the light issue taken care of. As for the back door, there needs to be more info on what exactly you are experiencing.

Did you buy it at honest ABE'S. used car lot? Take the thing back where you bought it its a federal law that you can back out on a used car deal within a time of 48 hours. the dealer knew about the trouble before you paid for it, don't keep it as this may be only the beginning of your troubles!!!!

There's a big ground wire running from the engine to the frame. Make sure that's on right. If it isn't all of the electrical stuff will be messed up.
