Why would anyone in their right mind think they have the right to vote on whether or not someone in a same sex relationship has to the right to get married?

I was under the impression that we would evolve our thinking, i.e. when segregation was finally over . Apparently a lot of bigots thought that the costitution only meant White men. When the subject of "Man and woman" being married, why can't everyone just see that our forefathers meant "people"? I don't know for a fact, but I'm sure that people back in the late 1700's didn't think about gay marriage. But now in our PC world, what possible harm could come from it gay people getting married? One expression comes to mind... "Why do people with closed minds always open their mouths?"

Rae, I actually did come from a religious background thanks. I'm from what you call an open minded Christian background. Need I remind you (on the topic of homosexuality) "Judge not, less ye be judged"?

P.S. Rae, since you're not that much older than me, how could I possibly be from a different generation than you? Just food for thought. Have a nice day.

Alright... Where to start... For those of you out there that are against gay marriage... first of all, i must ask, what happened to the freedom that we hold so dear in our country? Didn't people come to this country to get away from small minded people that wanted to impose their beliefs onto other people? Although it does seem to be a trend in this country, what's different has to be wrong. It happened with racial segragation, it happened with women voting, it's happened time and time again, and now the new topic of bigotry and hatred is gay marriage.

Many comedians have looked at a perfect oportunity with jokes such as, "don't they have the right to be as unhappy as straight married couples?"

Ok and this is specifically for you Rae... so you come from a "religious" background. So what does that mean? you were brought up in a closed minded church with people telling you what to think and what to believe? what is your reason for being against gay marriage? first of all, the adam and eve adam and steve phrase is way overdone and frankly just pisses me off because it's a prime example of the narrow-mindedness of christians.

I was brought up in a church, so i suppose i have a christian background. But did you completely forget the new testament. Jesus gave a revalation to Paul that said all things are lawful but not all expediant. So this is my point. Even from a christian standpoint, you are allowed to do whatever it is that you want, but you have to pay the consequences.

That's the final verdict that the bible has to offer. Also from a christian standpoint, no sin is worse than any others right? so even if homosexuality is a sin, then why does it have to be such a point of contention for christians. It's no different than the evengelical preacher that gets a "hummer" from a transvestite, it's no different than a preacher that stand in front of a church and preaches the gospel and looks at porn(not that i'm saying porn is evil or anything), it's no different than a "goody-goody christian" that follows all the rules... but tells a little white lie here and there. according to the Bible a sin is a sin is a sin right? so why harp on this one? I'm not saying it's wrong, i'm saying why do the christians have to harp on the one "sin" they think is so bad...

It's all just hypocrisy. preach one thing, but live another.

and as Littlefireyballofhate said, why is it that those with the most closed minds, have to have the biggest mouths? Just because it's something different, "OH" it has to be wrong?

people with such a narrow viewpoint of the world simply disgust me... The whole point, the foundation of America was for a land where there could be freedom of relgion, or from religion if that was your choice, freedom of expression, and freedom to do and say the things that you choose to be right. So what right does anyone have to shove their opinion down someone elses throat? you don't like it, get over it, and shut the hell up!

The bottom line is, whether or not your personal belief is that homosexuality is wrong or bad, even if this country proves to have more closeminded people than we expected, you will never be able to get rid of homosexuality, nor should it be "gotten rid of". If that's what makes someone happy, then for god's sake, let them be happy. Rae, you are happy in your life as a "straight" christian correct? so what, your beliefs say that what they are doing is wrong, let me remind again, freedom... that's what it all comes down to.

Closed minded people just want to take away their freedom to express their love, and frankly if they do, what's next? you can't say or do the things you want? when does it stop. This country's foundation is freedom so why would you want to rob some of its citizens of the right to freedom which is held so dear?

Obviously you do not come from a religious background. God did say one man and one woman, he made adam and eve not adam and steve. I guess that's the shame of being in your generation is that EVERYHTHING is ok but what happens when you stand in front of God and what you've done isn't ok.

PS I am 35 years old so not a whole lot older than you are probably

I agree with you. I don't know, and can't know, what the forefathers meant. But I certainly feel that it would hurt no one if gay people could get a piece of paper that would make their lives easier. To me, those who disrespect the "spirit" of marriage are not the committed gay couples who want to spend their lives together, but the irresponsible heterosexual couples who get divorced within 6 months of saying their vows. If we want to protect the "sacredness" of marriage - why not ban our celebrities from getting married? Wouldn't this do more for the "values" of the society than disrespecting gays?

I'm not gay, btw... I just don't believe in discrimination.

God gave everyone free will--how we choose to live our lives is up to us. For those people who say its against god's will for two men to be married have every right to say so. However, they aren't the ones who will answer for what other people do. I say let them get married...why shouldn't they have to suffer like the rest of us married folks?? I personally have no issue with it. As long as it doesn't invade my personal space then its all good.

If it feels good do it!

Grow up and be responsible. Nature is a fact. Plugs go in outlets not phone jacks or other plugs.

If you condone two guys or two girls then there is no moral reason to prevent polygamy or any number of "feel good" arrangements.

Because people fear those different from them. It is outside their comfort zone, whether it be race, religion, or sexual orientation.
