A great, fun way to enjoy talking with friends and at the same time sounding intelligent.

Okay, try again, how about the basics of anyone's beliefs that they adhere to regarding life and the ethics they live by.

"O que é Filosofia?"
(If you wanna know how to ask that in Portuguese too.)

Well, it depends on which is your theoretical school and what period you are considering.

It's difficult to jump this two things and answer that. Knowledge is alsways contextualized. Thus defining something without context (social-cultural and othes) is very difficul.

For me, it is, ultimately, the "act of effect of distinguishing things."

When you think (act) of something and then you distinguish it from others, by saying what it is and what it is not, then this action is philosophy.

When you register this act, then you have the affect of your action. This is commonly found in libraries.

The good thing in knowledge is: be yourself a library. Look inside yourself to find what the info you want... that's interesting.

But remember: you only have information in you when you put them in there. It is: they are not innate, as one could think.

Tnx and sorry for the mistakes,

Love of wisdom

Philosophy is a field of study in which people question and create theories about the nature of reality.

The topics that philosophy addresses fall into several distinct fields. Among those of fundamental concern are:

Metaphysics (the theory of reality).
Epistemology (the theory of knowledge)
Ethics (the theory of moral values)
Politics (the theory of legal rights and government)
Aesthetics (the theory of the nature of art)

Philosophy is a way for people who were to lazy to get a real education to still make money. Most of the questions asked and answered are irelevant to everday life. But I guess I look at it this way, Philosophy for the mind, is like running a marathon for the legs. You don't need to do it, but it's a hell of a workout.

Philosophy is thinking about thinking. Somewhere between science & theology, it is a search for meaning & wisdom in ourselves and our world.
