1) They aren't part of the Nuclear non-proliferation agreements
2) They are a sovereign nation
3) They have a right to develop any energy technologies they choose to pursue, and to defend themselves from any attack by foreign nations.
I agree if no nation having the right would be ideal. But if Russia, China and the US are so entitled, so is Korea. We don't get to pick who has the right based upon how sane or friendly we think they are...

To protect it's sovereignty as a nation, to deter aggression, and to bring itself on equal footing with other prosperous nations.
Should they have the "right" to? Yes!
Should they actually build, test and/or use them? No.
Somehow it's "different" for the United States and England to have them?
Are China, India and Israel different?
American/Russian politicians and military minds are the arrogance that started the whole situation after the cold war.
Now we're left to clean it up.
Who left the Super Powers as the worlds policemen? Why are their standards to be the bottom line?
North Korea should be allowed to build them if they want but, the problem lies in that if they do, can they be trusted with them? The answer is no.
So why let them build them?
Fighting to eliminate other "bad influences" around the world, it's interesting that democratic/elected governments throw their weight around like dictatorships when it comes to other nations business.

I will when you give me three reasons why some countries should have nuclear weapons and others should not --- and bear in mind that one of the "has" countries has actually used nuclear weapons to destroy thousands of civilians and has currently been discussing developing new nuclear weapons.

Because North Korea knows that the US has never attacked another sovereign nation who had nukes?
Even our friends like the UK, Mexico and Canada think the US is the greatest threat to world peace.
I can't think of another reason.
