The term "newsgroup" refers to a specific type of discussion forum, the Usenet network. It's based on the UUCP and NNTP protocols, and has been around for decades. The term "discussion forum" usually refers to a web site where discussions happen. They are much newer (the web itself only dates back to the early 1990s).

historically a newsgroup was up dated overnight and trickled down to various servers also the users were kept up to date via email

the news group is the group which performs all the collection and the top news for representin it for us.but the discussion forum it performs all the duscsing about all new thing and ideas.
