my mums pc has asked her to take out a disc and reboot the computer. she has taken the disk out, turned it on and off and it still hasnt rebooted. she is on the black start up screen, not the windows screen

press f1 or f2 on the start up post you will go into cmos becareful here!!! look for boot sequence floppy cdrom ide
change to cdrom ,ide floppy and exit and save.
put your windows cd in the drive and restart the computer follow the on screen prompts to the end .
when finished back to cmos nad change boot sequence to
ide,cdrom, floppy.
that should sort your prob hope this helps

turn of the paower wait a bit then turn it on. thsi should wipe aout all RAM
then turn it on and then put the windows disk in.
if it has some writing on the screen check for a button that say exit on the screen then press

hmm..not exactly sure but as a suggestion maybe insert the windows cd that came with your computer into the cd drive and hopefully when the computer restarts it will read the disc first and boot from that...worth a go, eh...

there is a difference between re starting and switching off and back on
go to the start menu click on switch off, you should the have the optional bttons off turn off, restart, and sleep. click on re start,
