microsoft net framework 1.1?

Question

having problemsinstalling update microsoft.net framework 1.1(it just wont install) do i really need it or can my pc live without it

when i try it takes forever and comes back as failed

Net framework 2 is out now so install that instead. Its not that important but if you want to run certain apps it is nessasary but if you are running without it at the moment obviously everything you use dosent need it.
