Minimum wage increases generally don't effect much except the very low end items that minimum wage earner purchase. Other than that it is generally a good thing for very low wage earners.

On no it has no effect at all as long as you assume that all jobs will be filled no matter what the wage rate is and that none of the cost will be passed on to the consumer. Oh, and don't forget many labor contracts in yankee land are tied to the minimum wage so those people will also get raises. Again if you assume that there will be the same number of jobs and cost won't be passed on there is no effect.

Do you think those are reasonable assumptions?

1. What is the most important part of being in business?
2. Where will the extra money come from?

When one is in business, it is the bottom line that matters the most. Smart business owners will only do those activities that will increase their bottom line. Rarely will the make decisions that will negatively impact the revenue they are generating.

The money that is required to pay a higher wage has to come from somewhere. If business people adhere to the most important aspect of business, the bottome line, then you know that a wage increase does negatively impact their revenues. As such, a smart business person will find a way to recoup whatever has been lost through wage increases. The easiest way to do that is to pass the cost of doing business on to the consumer.

The money doesn't grow on trees. It has to come from somewhere.

The minimum wage increase will:
1 Force employers to pay more for employees which will
2. Force manufacturers to charge more for their products which will
3. Force warehousers and VAR to charge more for their services which will
4. Force retailers to charge more for their products which will
5. MORE than negate the wage increase.

A minimum wage increase increases only the absolute dollar amount in a person's paycheck, NOT the purchasing power.
