I spent $150 total on maternity clothes today. I spent $100 at Old Navy and bought 8 shirts, 2 pants and 2 capris.
Then I bought 40 pieces of used maternity clothing for $30. The used clothes were from Motherhood, the Gap and Target. It included 25 very cute shirts, 4 pants, 2 jeans, shorts, and much more.
All I need to buy is maternity bras later on. My clothes should fit me my entire pregnancy unless I gain 50+ pounds!
My husband thought $150 was too much. This is my 1st pregnancy, and we are planning on another baby in 2-3 years. So I can use them again.
Oh and I work in a business casual office, so I can't get away with just buying big shirts and sweats during my pregnancy. :(
What do you think?

I live in southern California, so I don't have to worry about seasonal clothing.

That doesn't sound too unreasonable. I got lucky -- I had several friends that had just had babies right before me, so most of my wardrobe was borrowed. I would say I only spent around $100 on a few items, including bras. Congrats on the baby!!

although I do not think that is too much i think that you will be spending alot more throughout your pregnancy. If you buy it all for now what are you going to do later on? I am currently 40 weeks pregnant with my second baby and only gained 24 lbs with the firs. i never had to buy maternity clothes so when i found out i was pregnant with this one i thought it would be the same but as i started to gain the weight I went and bought tons of cute outfits for the summer. Well I never put into consideration the cold weather was coming and I was about 135 in august so i thought I wouldnt need a whole lot more because i had already gained 25 lbs. well i was wrong. I am now 164lbs and have nothing but summer clothes to wear and a few hoodies but refuse to buy anymore since i am due now!!! also you may be pregnant in different seasons next time around and might not be able to wear these next time. just spread the spending out throughout the months cause you never know what will happen.

I love oldnavy's maternity stuff. But i only buy the sale items. You only wear the stuff for a few months. Even though it says 0-9 months, you really start to out grow a lot of the shirts and pants. Your boobs get bigger and it changed the sizing.
Anyway, in an office setting theres not a lot you can do, you have to have some nicer things to stay professionsal.
I think its a bit much, I mean, I had 2 capri's 2 pair of pants, and maybe 6-8 shirts for my pregnancy thus far. And with only 10 weeks to go, i cant see having bought more. BUt i dont work in an office anymore either.
You'll keep them and reuse them, so it doesnt matter. Just enjoy them :)

Actually sounds like a good deal - just a lot of money to spend at one time, but that depends on how much you make I guess. The other issue is the maternity clothes will fit differently from person to person and pregnancy to pregnancy. I know women who wore regular clothes until the last month and those that needed to start with maternity in the 3 month.
Also, if it helps any you might mention to your husband that you can sell them at a resale shop (or garage sale) when you're done having kids.

Heck I would have stopped after the motherload of used maternity clothes you got!! That is a lot for an absolutley fantastic price!!
The Old Navy stuff sounds like a good deal too. It is nice to have some new things too.
A pregnant woman needs help feeling good about how she looks so I say you did awesome!! You hubby should be glad you are such a bargain hunter!! You are going to be able to use them again anyway!

that is not bad at all (150) I went to Old navy about a week ago and came out with less for about the same price! You must have found the bargains there and as far as me well....The GREAT thing about them when you plan on another baby you can always reuse them! I had to re buy because it has been 8 years sense I have had a baby so I thought it was over for me! SO NOOO don't think that is to high at all as long as you get the use out of them.! BEST WISHES and CONGRATS on the first baby!

I'll just let you buy my maternity clothes for me next time, I'll give you my money and you show me where to go. Seriously though you did absolutely wonderfully. Every where I've seen everything is about $20 a piece, you can't even get used clothes on eBay for that cheep, for a 15 piece lot they go for $100 or more. I'm so sad I wish I could find such great deals!

I think it sounds like you got a great deal! Lots of stuff..thats good..if you dont have a big variety then you get sick of wearing the same ol stuff all the time...so I think ya did good girl! Just a word of advice- don't ever let anyone borrow your maternity clothes...With my first pregnancy I spent a ton of money on maternity clothes...then afterwards I boxed them up to use again next time...well- my sister in law ended up pregnant and wanted to borrow them so I said ok- well- I never got them back..when I got pregnant this time around- I called her to get them back and she sold them all! So, I had to buy all new clothes again..urgg...but it was fun shopping again! hehe..

You did good for a first time maternity buyer. You bought cloths for work and at home so it works out great, you didn't limit your shopping to just one store like old navy, you went to other stores like target and motherhood. You are also thinking about the next baby that you are planning to have with your husband in the future.

Tell your hubby to shut up!!! $150 for all that, WOW you are a good shopper,i would've expected to spend three times that much on the amount you got!!! Tell you hubby to do the math...how much does a typical shirt cost? $10-$20, now times that by 40 and what do you get? a hell of alot more than what you spent!!! Good goin girl!!
