Or does anyone else get annoyed with the responses in alternative medicine saying 'you need to go to the doc' and/or 'you need to get meds'. People are asking questions in alternative medicine for a reason... perhaps they've tried a doctor and aren't happy with the results or perhaps they don't have medical insurance or perhaps they're just open to alternative medicine because they want to be. I believe that all illnesses come from the mind and our thought patterns, and that it is possible to fix yourself mind, body and soul, without the use of doctors and prescribed meds. On saying that, if someone had serious and urgent symptoms, then of course I would recommend that they consult a doctor. I don't believe in organised religion, so I stay well clear of the religion questions (they're all fighting in there anyway!), so why do people who don't believe in alternative medicine insist on posting answers for the alternative medicine questions?

As I said, "On saying that, if someone had serious and urgent symptoms, then of course I would recommend that they consult a doctor."
People seem to be telling people to go to the doc and get meds for the most trivial of things, and when they're on asking about alternatives.
I find peoples' reliance on drugs and meds in the US very scary. Doctors in the UK are more likely to recommend alternatives before writing a prescription.

No, I'm not a scientologist. As I said "I don't believe in organised religion".

Oh, my, yes.
I also get irritated with the people who think this is the marijuana board... but, I digress.
Regardless of which forum it's in, I don't think that "um see a doc, duh" is a worthwhile answer to ANYTHING. I also dislike "Why in God's name are you posting this on Yahoo! Answers? Go to the doctor!"
These boards are here for a reason; I think that most people just want reassurance... it might be late at night and they've just discovered an odd lump, and it helps ease their mind to talk to other people who have been in the same situation. I don't think that they're necessarily substituting it for medical advice.
You can't always get to a doctor immediately anyway, and sometimes a little reassurance can go a long way until then.
And yes, while it's good to be vigilant about your health, it's literally impossible for some people to afford going to the doctor for every little cut, scrape or sniffle. For example, once, I had a sharp pain in my stomach that I decided to have checked out. Upon arrival, I immediately got sent to the hospital, thrown in the CT-Scan tube, told that I was "fine," and subsequently charged over $2000. Even with insurance, it took me nearly six months to pay it off.
I don't go to the doctor anymore. For anything. I take a ton of "preventative maintenance" herbs every day, and interestingly enough, I haven't been sick since I started.

I have answered quite a few questions in this category but will admit to saying, as a last resort, see an alternative doctor. I would not be happy if I had recommended a remedy but the person had not fully disclosed their physical issues. If they took my advice completely and then wound up horribly ill, I would have a hard time living with myself. Yahoo answers is not a real consultation that a person often needs in order to take alternative remedies. I believe in alternative medicine and alternative practitioners. I will give lots of information about herbs and home cures and I grow a garden full of these delights. However, in recommending cures without a full consult with the person, I will cover my butt by advising that a person see an alternative practitioner, not a doctor.

Hi Angelic
I understand what you are saying but you have to remember the first thing anyone should do is check with their doctor alternative medicine is a complementary medicine and should be used in that way although there are a lot less side affects when using alternative medicine as they come from natural ingredients but it is not regulated as much as the normal health service.
so by going to your doctor first you stand a better chance of not getting caught out by fraudsters and will know that you are being treated for the right thing and not just something that you may think you have.

Thank you for your response. I must admit I get as frustrated as you in regards to the answers. Unfortunately as a doctor of natural medicine I am always required to tell people to see their MD. Not because I don't know what the person needs, not because my education is any less, and not because I am scared to tell them the wrong things, but because by law I have to say this since my state restricts my scope of license. I can tell you to take herbs, but not to take an asprin.
The problem with folks posting allopathic responses to a vitalistic question is that most people looking to use alternative therapy, don't want to understand how to use alternative therapy. Most people think they can symptom treat with herbs, vitamins, yoga, or acupuncture. Without understanding what alternative therapy treats, and how it treats a person (which is the most important part), people will get lousy results. You can't use a natural therapy the same way you use a drug - this will never work.
The biggest issue though is that we have been trained to fear our bodys. We have been told to run scared everytime it is working properly. To be scared of fevers, vomiting, diarrhea, sneezing, coughing, etc. Even my wife still deals with this fear - and this fear is valid if you live in a third world country. Fevers burn off infections, excess mucus traps the invader, vomitting and diarrhea expell it out of our digestive systme, sneezing out of our nazel cavity. All of these symptoms are the body's natural way of healing and protecting. But instead we try to stop them, block them, and make them go away - we are trained they are bad for us and could kill us. Get REAL. When did a properly functioning body get misunderstood.
I hope you continue on your journey, your search for health and healing. I have had the best 8 years of my life for myself and my children since I started trusting the body and supporting it, not trying to stop it.

Your a scientolgist arnt you. Anyways because for many of the questions asked alternative meds are not going to work. Your telling me a cold for exapmle is just in your head? this is not always the case. Alternative meds dont usually work on serious situations. If someone has seen 1 doctor and is unhappy with the results they need a second opinion. Many times when someone is asking about alternative meds they really need to be with a real doctor regardless if they have insurance or not. work out a payment plan but dont try to correct something (that you cant) by yourself.

Your right alot of illnesses are cause from thought and alternative meds or herbs are safer then going to the Dr.s who do not take the time to access the actual problem they would rather hand out drugs so that they get the kick backs from the drug companies. And I wonder how many deaths have actually been caused by the wrong drugs.

Yes. Acting like he is doing you a desire by means of "letting" you be his female friend = enormous ********. And if he is already having intercourse with you and not using a attempt in any respect on his aspect, what feasible capabilities could there be to being promoted from semen receptacle to female friend? What's in it for you? More of the equal. He will not ever deal with you any bigger than he does correct now. You ensured that whilst you gave him the one factor he desired from you.

It's just you. If someone posts a question that suggests they might have a dangerous life-threatening condition, I would suggest they seek urgent medical attention. That is my answer. It is up to them of course what they do with it.
