It is totally normal for a young babies eyes to wander. They are just learning how to see and focus. Don't worry!
You don't need to worry unless you start to see a consisitent crossing problem closer to the age of 1.

RE:
3 week old with a lazy eye?
At 3 weeks old has anyone experienced their babies eyes going different directions? Is it just them trying to focus on things and not being able to see so well?

I have seen many infants that appear cross eyed as children. Some out grow it and other do not. From experience let me tell you to have your pediatrician look at, if they say that it is a lazy eye, try putting a patch over the child's good eye (a lazy eye is nothing but a weak muscle), by doing this it will cause your baby to use the muscles in the other eye more thus strengthening the muscle. I will also tell you that this does not work for every one. I know of some children who needed surgery and others that didn't but it is worth a try before you allow them to operate on your child's eye.

It's normal for your baby's eyes to wander or cross now and then during the first month or so of life. A newborn is just getting the hang of making his eyes work together. But if you notice that your baby's eyes seem crossed or misaligned all the time, or if they seem to wander after the first couple of months, the problem could be strabismus (misaligned eyes) or amblyopia (lazy eye). Talk to his doctor, who will probably refer you to an ophthalmologist. Fortunately, these conditions can be successfully treated if detected early.
What is strabismus?
If your baby's eyes seem to point in different directions or not focus on the same object, he may have strabismus — a lack of coordination between the eyes. They may appear to be "crossed" or one may seem to drift inward, outward, or upward. Strabismus can be constant (meaning the eyes are always crossed or misaligned) or intermittent (meaning it happens now and then).
If your baby has strabismus and it isn't treated, his brain could start ignoring the input from one of his eyes, eventually causing the vision in the ignored eye to deteriorate. This condition is known as amblyopia or "lazy eye" (see below). Depth perception could also be damaged.
What causes it?
Sometimes strabismus is present at birth. The condition seems to run in families, but can also show up in children with no family history — and when that's the case, it sometimes indicates a more significant vision problem. Those who are farsighted also seem to be at higher risk.

There are two things that could be happening here.
1) You child has an eye condition that may require surgery to fix.
2) Your child has yet to develop the muscle control to properly control their eye sight.
I would tell your concerns to the pediatrician and see what he has to say at your next apointment, I wouldn't be be to scared at this point. My daughter's eyes did this until she was a little over a month, and she is a perfectly happy healthy 2 year old with out any eye problems!

Hi there, friend of mine here at work had a lazy right eye when she was a baby. She eventually out grew it, but I would take your baby in just to make sure everything is okay, and for a peace of mind. =) Good luck!

I have twin girls and they both were like that at first. My doc. said that one of my twins might have a lazy eye. But when i took them for there 4 month check up her eyes were fine. They are just trying to focus on the things that they see. But always ask your doc.

my daughter was 13 months old when she had to start wearing glasses, a lazy eye is not detected until baby is at least a year old, at three weeks old baby is just focusing. you have nothing to worry about yet.

its not lazy eye. Its totally normal for babies to do that. When he or she does start crossing eyes, just put your hand over the eyes and that will stop it. They are just trying to focus and have no control over them.
