I would suggest calling a florist and having a beautiful centerpiece delivered.......have one with a candle in the center so you can light it and all give thanks!!! No a thank you note is always a nice touch......I am sure you will make a wonderful impression on the family!!! Do NOT pick up anything at the grocery store as I am sure she has the entire meal planned!

Welcome to the United States! Most people don't bring anything more than their appetites to Thanksgiving dinner. However, if you want to score points with Mom, bring flowers or a bottle of wine. But check with your boyfriend before bringing the wine. Alcohol is counter to some people's religious beliefs. A formal thank you note will blow Mom away! Most people don't send thank you notes. It is a lovely gesture! I think you will make a favorable impression on Mom!

HI! Welcome the the USA! I hope you have a WONDERFUL FIRST THANKSGIVING! You have FANTASTIC manners to bring a gift for your host/hostess! I have been hosting over TEN YEARS and none of my relatives/friends have brought me anything. I would suggest a beautiful bouquet of flowers or a lovely fruit basket. Either would be a nice touch. Too bad they don't drink. I know Thanksgiving makes me yearn for a bottle of nice wine! Have a GREAT Thanksgiving!!

If you have a camera, you could give her a picture frame and then take a family picture with everyone at the table or grouped together. Get it printed to put in the frame.
The thank-you note would be very nice. People are too casual and often neglect this.

I agree that flowers always make for a nice gift. Other options could be a gift basket, candles, or possibly even an ornament (if they celebrate Christmas and have a tree).
Yes, do write her a thank you note afterwords, they are always appreciated and will make you stand out!
Enjoy and good luck. Have a safe trip and a nice holiday!

If it is family, most people if living nearby help cook the dinner, but if visiting from out of town something simple such as candlesticks, centerpieces, etc. will do.
