For the most part I've found it to be true.
I'm trying to stop myself buying the less expensive items just because I'm so darned frugal. If you buy the cheap glass wipe cloths, you get smears. If you go with Windex brand (for example), they work as you'd expect them to.
This rule doesn't apply to everything, and there are extremes at both ends. But I would say that overall, it is true.

True probably, but it pays to shop around. Just because you buy something from an expensive shop doesn't mean you won't get the same thing cheaper elsewhere.
