I have trouble backing up/reversing in the parking lot and in my parking space. I so use to driving a small car, I use to have a small car and when i back up out of a parking space i usually look at my mirror in the car, that one mirror where you can look directly back and the car is small so it's really easy but NOW I drive a bigger car and i can't use that mirror in the car b/c the car is pretty big and i've been trying to use the mirrors on the side but it's really hard. I don't know when i'm too close to the opposite parked car and i don't want to hit the other car. My question is how can I back up without hitting the opposite parked car and how do i iknow when to stop and how do i use the side mirrors and when should i stop before hitting the car behind me. I don't want to get too close to the car parked in the opposite parking space when i'm backing up. Thankyou so much!

And also i like driving a bigger car, it's more safe but getting out of a parking space is hard and if you guys can explain to me and show me how, that'll be great. THANKYOU

There are a few things you can do to back up a large vehicle. I'm in the Army and drive large vehicles regularly.

1. After backing up, you can get out and look at how much space you have to maneuver.

2. You can go slowly until you gently bump whatever is behind you.

3. If you have a passenger, ask them to stand off to the side in the rear of the vehicle and give you directions. (This is the Army method)

It always helps to practice. If you have the spare time, take your car to an empty lot and practice backing it toward stationary objects. Back up until you think you're really close. Try and estimate how far you think you are from the object before you get out and look. Then get out and see how close you are. As you practice, you will get used to judging distance from the driver's perspective.

Most of all - Have fun. Driving should be a pleasurable experience. It is this mentality that is common among Americans and makes driving an American pass-time.

Good luck!

Practice, practice, practice.

Once you get more familiar with your new, bigger vehicle it will get easier to judge distances from other cars. It also doesn't help that they're making parking spots/lanes smaller and narrower but the cars bigger and wider.

I don't drive my husbands car because it is more difficult for me to judge how far to other cars/objects because of how his windows and visibility are compared to the windows and visibility on my car.
