1. buy a wireless router.
2. with DSL, you often have to have a login ID and password through a software client when connecting directly to the DSL modem, using what's called PPP. You'll need to configure the wireless router to send the sign on information, so your PC won't have to.
3. after configuring the wireless router to use your signon, you'll disable the desktop's software client, then have the desktop connect directly to the router over a standard patch cable (since the desktop sounds like it has onboard ethernet) and have the laptop connect wirelessly.

A router, either wireless or cabled.

You simply unplug the connection between the DSL modem and your desktop PC, connect the modem to the router, then plug your PC into one of the sockets on the router.
Then you can ether set up a wireless connection for your laptop, or connect it to another of the router ports.
Pretty much all domestic routers come with installation instructions, or there are plenty of people out there who can set it up for you.... seek out a knowledgeable friend or a local user group, before contacting somebody like me, who do this for money :-)
