Unfortunately, there will always be a need for it. It's a woman's right to choose what they do with their body, and unless you want to see back street abortions on the rise, then the medical profession must ensure that it's legal, free and safe, regardless of the religious nutters who value a bunch of cells over a woman's life.

Because it is not a new phenomenon - trying to control their fertility and being so unhappy about an unwanted pregnancy has led women of every age and in every culture to want to terminate..
The term 'natural' can be applied to behaviour or action which is common, historically, anthropologically and culturally to a particular species..abortion falls into this category however unpleasant or undesirable that may be..
Incidentally, having an unwanted pregnany is a very scarey thing for any woman to have to face. Not one contraception on offer is 100% effective against pregnancy so the notion that one can just use birth control implying that all pregnancies can be controlled is a fallacy.
There is no equivalent in law where a man is forced to do something he does not want to do which would be the case if abortion was to become illegal again.. both parties do however have the choice to use contraception and accept there is a small risk of pregnancy or to abstain..
A child is a life long commitment and especially in this current climate where many men do not stay the distance to raise their children leaving the woman to face the lion's share alone, I would never condemn another woman for choosing to terminate her pregnancy and do what she wanted to with her body.
That said, I do think that the age limit should be drastically lowered.

Abortion is not used as a method of contraception (as some has erroneously pointed out), but as a procedure for women who feel unable to continue with a pregnancy. Even when it was illegal before 1967 in this country women still used means to procure abortion, whether it may be knitting needles or herbs. The main thing that has changed is that the death rate of women has gone down due to less infections. If you want children you need healthy women in society.

Unfortunately abortion is seen as another method of birth control. Sadly for the many women who have had abortions, the emotional and sometimes physical scars are never recovered from.
We live in a society which does not value the true beauty of sexuality and the gift of life. Having sex is like playing tennis, just another thing you do.
The situation is not helped by the current government.

Sadly because morals are just thrown out the window anymore. Women have been brain washed into believing that abortion is a choice. It is truly so sad that someone could think that MURDER is okay. Life begins at conception and that is the plain truth. Abortion is not an option, it is a cop out so that a woman doesn't have to take responsibility for her irresponsible actions. That baby didn't ask to be born. It is a shame that a woman's selfishness is all it takes to end a precious little life.

anything that was considered wrong 50 years ago probably seems normal now.. With global media and internet, we are bombarded with so many images and situations, that is sort of numbs our senses and moral fibers to the point where its no longer seemed bad.. remember homosexuality was a mental disease 100years ago and you would be sent to the phsyciatrist to be treated.. What if in the future a peodophile or cannibal says.. its my nature to do these things and the media shows so much of it that we dont care anymore and its deemed an acceptable alternative life style.. "God forbid", but its seeming to be going that route anyways..

And who's told you that it is 'natural'? Is using contraception natural? I don't think so (it is only less than 100 years old!) Accidents do happen even to the most careful and responsible people. The reason somebody is using contraception is to avoid getting pregnant. If the contraception fails then why should she go through an unwanted pregnancy??? Just to satisfy some biggotted freaks? That's not very nice.

abortion is a choice albeit a difficult one. however just because a woman has an abortion doesn't mean she doesn't care about the child she could have had it was the right choice to make at that stage in her life.
In response ot Amy A, its not always because a woman is irresponsible. for example if she was raped or abused by a family member & found out she was pregnant

I am starting to think that they just see it as the easiest way out. They don't want to take on the cosequences for their actions so they think that they can have the fun and that there wont be any consequences because there is always abortion to hep. But if there was no abortions then maybe they would think before they act but since there is abortions that is where they turn so they can go and have fun and get an abortion again and then start the process over. Abortion is what they use to get out of taking responsibility for their actions.

I think that's too broad a statement to make. Many people oppose abortion in the world and I'm sure even those who don't won't find anything 'natural' about it.
