okay dealers love them for obvious reasons...but why would a person spend crazy amounts of money on old useless things?

It is a matter of nostalgia. Also, for me, I love antiques that still function. Furniture, some kitchen tools, jewelry can still be as functional and beautiful as when new.

Well, these things arnt always useless. I do agree with you, that they are too expensive though.

People appreciate these things, because of their age, what it was used for, the fact that is still around, becuz it was most likely made better than some things today.... theres just many reasons why ppl are into antiques.

Sometimes it reminds ppl of things that their grandparents had, and they want to have the same kinds of things in their house.

fun
cheap (if you look around)
functional
valuable (as an investment)
inspirational
historical
empowering (you're children won't want to piss you off...being possible heirs, and all)
