To theperson that wrote first answer, i have this to say:
You said that kobe hsant won anything without shaq and never will. Your argument for Dwade is that he has a ring. Are u dumb? Wade won his ring cuz SHAQ IS ON THE TEAM. Wade hasnt won anything without Shaq either.
Back to the question; Dwade and Lebron can score but have NO D. Both have great slashing games at the rim, as does Kobe, but both of those players have unreliable jumpers. Kobe is a better shooter and Kobe is a MUCH BETTER DEFENDER. Kobe is the best player in the League right now. The contenders for that crown are melo, wade and lebron. They will be the players that carry the League into the next generation. But right now its Kobes time. Sit back and enjoy. When its all done, he will have 4 or 5 rings, an MVP, he'll the in the HoF and the lakers will retire his #24......... or will it be #8. You get the point.

Depends on who you ask, everyone has a bias these days or they use criteria about Kobe as a person vs. Kobe as a player.
The question I asked myself after reading your question is: Would I want Kobe on my team if I wanted to win. The answer is yes.
Kobe is great player and probably the best player in the NBA because all he cares about is winning. Last year when the Lakers didn't have a step-up guy to support Kobe he went out and won games and took a lot of verbal abuse around the country. It seems people didn't want to admit that he could beat teams single-handidly, it went against the grain.
Now the Lakers are better, Kobe is leading the team not with buckets, slams dunks and showmanship; but with real leadership. A. Bynum scored 20 against the Timberwolves while Kobe had only 7 shots and shot very well. In the loss against Seattle Kobe had 9 assists while last year in his 81 point game he has 1 (possibly 0)
No one in the league is a better 4th quarter player, and if Steve Nash and Kobe had been on opposite teams last year, the Suns go to the finals while the Lakers don't win 25 games. You can't get assist passing to guys who can't play.

Who is the most hated player by fans in the game today? Kobe bryant. Who was the most hated player by fans 10 yrs ago? Michael Jordan. I'm not saying Kobe is as good as Michael cause i'm not sure anyone will ever be that good, but Kobe is hated on more than any player today. He is hated on but you can't help but acknowledge that you would rather have him taking the last shot, leading your team to the playoffs than any other player in the nba.

No, as much as a Laker fan I am, I don't see him being the best. I think he is the one of the best for his position, but he is not the best. You can never say there is a best, because they don't play every position. Can Kobe guard Shaq? NO! Can Shaq guard Kobe, NO! So my point is ask whether or not Kobe is the best shooting guard in the league?
Here is another question for you. . . .Can Kobe guard Lebron? Can Kobe guard Wade? Can Kobe guard Vince? Can Kobe guard Tracy? Can Kobe guard Carmelo? Here is the ultimate question. . . .when will Kobe ever stop Corey Maggette? For the past 3 years, Maggette has given Kobe the fits. When will Kobe take it upon himself to stop the other teams main player and still get his in the process? Kobe is a man child, but it is time to step up his game. You and me both know the kid can score, but can he defend and score at the same time, like his idol did. That is the question. But GOD BLESS YOU and take care.

Probably the best individual player in terms of talent, but not a very good team player (he's rarely a leader and sometimes takes too many shots). As much as I like Kobe, Id have to give the #1 title to Lebron James, who has established himself as a good leader in such a young age.

He scores 18 points and he is the best? give me a break, Iverson is way better. Only reason why Lakers beat the sixers in the finals back in 98-99 was because the lakers had shaq. I won't say Kobe is the best in the NBA until he can win a championship without shaq on his team.

Or what? NIMO - Wade or Lebron got Kobe beat. Say what you will about either. Wade's got a ring too. And remember that Kobe hasn't done anything w/o Shaq except sit at home & watch the playoffs/championship since he chased Shaq off. Good call, Kobe. No way will Kobe ever win anythign by himself . And that's what "best" means - winner. It don't mean a thing if you ain't got that ring. And the only reason Kobe's got his is because of Shaq.

No he's not. LeBron is better, and a team player. And personally I believe that Ray Allen is a better player than Kobe. Ray and LeBron make the players around them better.
