I am French living in UK. I love it here with its traditions and culture but still am proud and happy of the French way of life and culture. Some of our friends find that "incomfortable"! What do you think ?

I'm Irish and lived in NL for six years, and it was a great experience - people thought that Irish had some odd customs, like having a party when someone dies, it's called a 'wake' ... likewise I thought the Dutch had some funny ways, but most of the time I enjoyed our differences.

How odd that your friends find you being proud of your native culture to be 'uncomfortable'. What's wrong with that? What's wrong with THEM?

It doesn't matter where you live, first and foremost, you will always be French - I don't know why people would have a problem with that? I'm Italian, not living in Italy, and I'll always embrace my culture - I love to socialize with people from different cultures - I just think you've met the wrong people maybe?? Or maybe it is more of an age old 'resentment' between French and English?? Don't know, just never forget your roots, or feel embarrassed by them. "Viva le France"!

great. you should be proud of your roots and culture. My auntie moved to Corsica after the second world war (she was 23 and pregnant) and loves it there. She has been back to the UK only once and can hardly speak any english now.

Obviously be proud of who you are & where you come from, its important to you. Its also great that you appreciate the UK for what we have here too because I feel many others do not. Ignore your friends who find it uncomfortable,it is there problem not yours.
