I have 'wireless' Internet connection - it's supposed to be 8 megabyte download speed but rarely reaches 1 megabyte, although TalkTalk/Carphone Warehouse charge me £10 a month for the privilege!

Anyway look up Belkin because it's really quite simple [and I'm really, really old - and female!!!]

What the facility offers is the ability for you and any other computer users in your house to connect to the Internet without wires, cables etc. You just need one piece of equipment connected to the phone line and that's the Belkin ADS Modem with Wireless G Router and all the other computers in the house have access [wireless]

Don't ask me how it works electronically - I have no idea. I do know that you should get someone to help you use the security feature because apparently people with loaptops in cars nearby can use your wireless facility without you knowing - rather like the facility in airport waiting lounges.

My Belkin was free - don't know about other suppliers.

I have my Toshiba laptop and my iMac both working off the same Belkin ADSL Modem with Wireless G - router.

Internet with no wires. To make your computer wireless, you need a wireless router, and either wireless already enabled, or something on your computer to recieve the signal. If you only have 1 pc though, there's no point.

You need a wireless card/antenna installed on your computer. Then there has to be a wireless access point from which you can connect to the internet. Look at the FAQs on Wireless Networking in dslreports.com

just as it says 'internet with no wires'
i THINK u can only go wireless on laptops.
so if u do have a laptop. read the manual and see if it is wireless compatable (or something like that)
or u could buy a wireless adaptercard for it
and u need also a wireless router

I think I have one of these, it is when you plug the 4n plug into the wireless not the pc and this enables 2 or more people to be on the Internet on different pc at the same time!

you have to get a wireless card for your computer if it's not already equipped with one and then buy a wireless router here is a link to the linksys I use and it works great and cheap, http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=5250774&type=product&productCategoryId=pcmcat7000050002&id=1051384663529 , once you have this hardware you just plug your internet into the back of the router and then there is a little bit of setup and then you can use your computer anywhere in the house

it's just the same as a normal network, but the cables are replaced by radio-waves...
most new computers are ready equipped but you can buy cards from computer shops for £20 ish to set it up. you also need a wireless access point that broadcasts the 'cell' around your home/office. this is a bit pricier but not too bad...
security's a bit of a risk cos people 'sniff' for the network to get access - put as much security on as poss - passwords, firewall, and WPA2.

what you do is first you hook up your modem to a computer A and to a telephone line

then you attach a wireless adaptor to your computer A

then you attach a wireless adaptor to computer B

then you set up a LAN

then if you have set it up properly you will have a wireless connection to computer B

then you have a wireless network and wireless Internet

It's just like it sounds ... internet access without a bunch of wires hanging out the back of your computer. My laptop is WiFi compatible. Inside the laptop, there is a little transmitter attached to the ethernet card. Whenever I want to hook-up to the internet, the little transmitter sends out and receives a signal to make my connection. To make it work, the other side of the coin is the WiFi router that sends and receives the internet signal to my laptop. The WiFi router is connected to the internet by wires, but it transmits to the actual computer using the internet without wires.
