Has there ever been a candidate elected as a democrat, republican, and independent.?

Example, the candidate ran as democrat and was elected, then switched to republican and was elected, and then switched to independent and ran for another term and was elected.

i imagine it relies upon on the candidate. some everybody is racist and could not vote for any black candidate.
