You need to know first, if each slot on the motherboard support a memory of 1 GB. Else, you may need to buy memory in parts like 2 X 512 MB. However, if it supports there would be a specific memory type (speed, RAM type, etc., ) that it supports
I use System Information for Windows utility for this. Hope it would help you too....
Here is the link to download it :
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/SIW.shtml
or
http://www.download.com/SIW/3000-2086_4-10569778.html
You need not to install it , just a double click would give you all the information about your system. For information on memory click on Hardware and memory.
If the computer model is not found in Crucial.com , you can also try with memoryx.com.

there are many types of memory for p.c,s ,older p.c,s take sd-ram which is only avalible in sizes up to 512mb normally, then there are ddr(double data rate) and ddr2,this is the new generation of memory and has much higher frequencies than sd ram
the first job you need to do is confirm what type of memory you need for your machine, you can do this by either opening the case of your p.c and physically inspect your memory module ,it will normally have a sticker or label with the memory type printed on it
sd ram will have 3 parts to the module ,3 different sized edges to the module, were as ddr ram will only have 2 edges to the module
however it may be alot easier to go to http://www.crucial.com/,and use the on-line scanner to find the type of memory you will need, you will get a in-depth report which you can print out and take to your local computer shop to purchase the memory
when you buy memory..one tip..allways make sure that the memory module comes in a protective wallet or case ,do not accept any memory that is just handed to you, this is because the module can be damaged if not handled correctly
and when you install the memory ,touch a radiator or use a anti-static wristband,as eletric discharge in your body can wipe out your memory if not handled correctly, allways hold by edges, never hold by the chips on the memory
any problems with installation let me know
good luck

If the graphics are intensive, could be that you need a better graphics card in addition to increased memory.
