http://www.city-data.com/city/Chicago-Illinois.html shows that average Jan temp in Chicago is about 23F. (Avg High 30F, Avg Low 16F). Lakeside, the wind can be bone-chilling.

Places of interest in the winter, hmm that's a tough one. Check out the Chicago Cultural Center on Washington and Michigan (address: 78 E Washington St ). There's a tourist center there, with numerous staff members to answer your questions and all the brochures you could want, including **coupons** for price breaks. The CCC is place of interest in itself, with free concerts (classical and jazz) and tiled domes on the top floor by Tiffany.

Ask about:
--Outdoor sculptures by Picasso and Miro
--Millennium Park featuring a Frank Gehry band shell, and "The Bean" sculpture (really called "Cloud Gate") - good photo op.
--Marshall Field's (now Macy's boo-hoo), with another Tiffany dome. Dine in the Walnut Room for a shi-shi "I was there" lunch.

Go to the Lakeside and look back at the city for another good photo op.

Favorite Pizza Places:
Gino's East
Lou Malnati's
Uno's
(Giordano's is near the CCC and it's the same as those I listed.)

But don't overlook Greektown for some of the best Greek cuisine you'll have outside of Greece.

Have a good time.

There is no such thing as BEAR WEATHER. Everybody thinks oh Chicago is so cold. It is just as cold for the visitor and the home team. Of course if the Saints win the levees will be fixed, Bourbon Street will be back up and the 9th ward will be filled to capacity. If the Saints win the city won't change one lick!!!

I have a colleague who used to live in Chicago. She got this awesome opportunity to go to Antarctica one winter (when it's summer down there). While down there she called her family back home in Chicago, and it was colder in Chicago than it was in Antarctica! That next summer she moved with her family to Atlanta, and doesn't regret it!

So yeah, it can be cold. Make sure you dress appropriately and you should be fine. After all, you're only going to visit. Have fun!

About as cold as Wisconsin gets because we're both up north...average in January...oh, I'd say low 20's in town. Otherwise it's cold enough to give ya frostbite if you stay out long enough uncovered. Bundle up!

Average high of 32 degrees F. Average low of 18 degrees F. Plus if you're downtown, the wind whips through the buildings and can be pretty nasty.

Snowy and it will get below zero I think Jan is the crummiest time to come here. But have fun. You won't notice how cold it is when you hit the clubs and Irish pubs anyway?
