a woman should get the seat 1>because she is capable of having children and becoming more than 1 person in the future. 2>no decent man would be able to live with himself if he did not offer up the seat to the woman.3>cowardice would be shown otherwise.

It's a coin toss. I'm sure you are thinking of how in the past (and still in some areas today) women and children have been allowed to go first into lifeboats. This was dramatized in Titanic. It brings up the question of whether so-called "chivalry" still has any place in modern society. I don't think it does, but a number of people still do, and we will continue with confusion about this subject until we decide it one way or the other.

If one of the two had someone from their family already on the boat I would be inclined to pick them, though that is not really fair. Then again, no choice will be "fair."
