i have used evry conceivable anti-virus avalible to man since i started using p.c,s and avast 4.7 is probally one of the best ones i have come across in that time
i wouldnt be worried about using avast,i would probally be more dubious with something like nod32 or panda as there is so much going on in there programs were as avast is "you get exactly what is says on the box"no bells and whistles jsut a good anti-virus
i have 3 p.c in my house all connected via a network and every one uses avast 4.7,and we dont have any virus/malware problems,
i wouyld also recommend using spybot and adware personal in conjunction with avast for a all round security package
you can get spybot and adaware from the following links

spybot ...http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
adaware...http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

good luck

Give up using Windows, and install Linux on your computer. Linux is immune to all viruses, malware, spyware and adware.

Linux is a complete operating system that is either free or very cheap ($10-$30) and comes bundled with a huge variety of free software.

The Linux desktop is amazingly flexible and customizable, and anyone who is used to Windows will soon feel comfortable with it - and shocked by how dull their old Windows system looks by comparison! For example, in Linux you can use up to twenty (yes twenty) separate desktop work spaces - Windows only gives you one.

Go to www.distrowatch.com to find out how to get all the popular flavors of Linux...

...then do an image search for Linux screen grabs on Google.

I have have had the free version protesting me since 2002 and I have no complaints, I have coupled it with SpywareBlaster and the free ZoneAlarm firewall I feel safe (ish).
