I think that many children are starting to sit up and take notice because things are not the same as they were six years ago. Fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, cousins going to Iraq. Soldiers being killed on what seems to be a daily basis. These aren't things that will escape their notice. Unfortunately, with the current administration, the age of childhood innocence isn't what it used to be.

Yes!

Whenever anyone hears the word "deficit", their eyes glaze over. But the ones whose ears should perk up are the next generation. "Deficit" means that the gov. is paying for its expenses *today* by borrowing money and raising its debt. It is the next generation that gets to pay back that debt .. with *their* taxes.

So lowering taxes today, is effectievly raising taxes for our kids.

This is why a balanced budget is vital ... a goal that was finally on target under Clinton, after Reagan took deficit spending to an art form. Although the case could be made that Reagan had a reason ... (he was successfully outspending the Soviets into bankruptcy) ... the same cannot be said for Bush, who, with a Republican congress, both lowered taxes, and increased spending (helped in no small measure by an expensive and unnecessary war). The deficit has balooned again under this Admin. and Congress ... we've been spending through the roof, and sending the bill to our kids.

So, yeah ... it's all about our kids' generation. (And that was the message the Pelosi kept hammering on during the campaign, and what she said today in her press conference.)

So kudos to your kids for paying attention!! My kid was too!

MTV sponsors "rock the vote" and many celebrities have become publicly involved w/ politics which maybe part of the influence behind it all, which is great:) In the past few years we have seen each other through a lot....terrorism, hurricanes, and fires which claimed the lives of many of our fellow Americans, but through it all regardless of race, religion, gender or sex we did unite and bust through it and the generation to follow will definitely be better people for it.

I think they recognize that the US needs a change, whether it's a change in our congress, administration, or in our way of thinking. That's awesome that you're kids cared so much about it. I hope that you continue to instill the importance of our nation and civilian rights in them
