The gearshifter will not go into reverse while you are moving. You just hear a loud grinding noise when you try!

The **** wheels in the gearbox would grind at each other within a split second until one is destroyed. The car will abruptly decelerate for a moment, you'd hear a crushing noise, and then the car will keep rolling forward. You have created a second neutral gear at that point.
The minimum damage is that you have 2 neutral gears and no reverse, but the whole gearbox could actually be destroyed and the drive shaft damaged.
My brother in law did this. In his case the damage was limited (drove a an 1990 Audi) - in essence he had no more reverse gear after that.

You couldn't do it unless your drive tires were locked up and sliding. The the reverse could engage and when you let the clutch out the tires would spin backwards. I've done this on mud and snow before but never on asphalt, I can't think that anything good would come of it though.
Did it at 70 with an automatic once. That was fun, I sold the car shortly thereafter though.

There will be a horrible, horrible metallic grinding noise as all the teeth are broken off the gears in the gearbox. The forward momentum of the car at 80mph will destroy the gearbox before it ever gets the chance to actually select the gear.

I am pretty sure...in fact POSITIVE that your "tranny" will not allow you to go into reverse! I had a Camero with a 5-speed and
never hit reverse, in fact I think your car has to be in the stopped position for the transmission to engage into "reverse", it's how your transmission is protected! If it wasn't I think we would see a lot of people backed into others on the Freeway!! Take care :-)

On a manual car there is no synchromesh for reverse gear,so you will not be able to do it.
Years ago I had an old ford cortina, used to reverse it as fast as i could put it in first gear and drop the clutch,it would spin the wheels like mad and leave clouds of rubber smoke, great fun!

If you have a more modern auto, there should be a safety mechanism that would prevent you from doing that. If not, then you will at least strip some gears in the attempt to switch to reverse. Should you have a real stroke of luck and actually succeed throwing it in reverse, you will destroy your tyranny. Furthermore, the violent jolt will likely cause damage to your drivetrain, engine, and body frame.

It would probably smash your gear box, I once tried changing into first gear at about 60 mph, let the clutch out and bang, wheels locked up blew my clutch to pieces. Lucky though gear box survived .
If your gonna try it make sure your in the AA or Rac or try it with a hire car (don't tell them what you were up to) also make sure there is no one else around!
(What the flux is a "flux capacitor" also best leave the tranny at home trying on his mothers clothes)

That depends have you tried it? For the love of god dont try it. Disaster of the year, some nut goes into reverse and crashes into the car behind. to be honest i think that you'd either slow down or just carry on. if you wont take my advice and go ahead and do it, start at a slow speed and work your way up.

Modern cars will not allow you to put the stick into reverse when the vehicle is in forward motion. even if you could it would blow the gearbox and probably you undercarraige to smithereens!
I'd pity the person driving behind you....
