It seems that all you hear on the news are complaints about the Republicans in goverment, their policies and ideals. People on TV and the radio claim this election means "America is going to go in a new direction". Does anyone believe this and why. I'm Independent and I don't trust anyone at this point.

It looks like pretty much everyone is on the same page- even if Dem's say they will improve things they probably won't. So much for them being about people's rights, etc. Hopefully Hollywood adn them media will shut up at least. I agree- we'll just have to sit back and see.

No, it will be the same stuff probably. Except now we have historically more members of the government that don't have back bones, but when push comes to shove, politicians are paid propagandist liars, some are better at it than others of coarse. Look at all of the things that have been said about Bush thus far, whether you like the man or not. Do you think that even if he would have made the exact opposite decisions he have been supported any more so, of coarse not. Politics is all about getting paid big bucks for doing very little and of coarse poop flinging and deceit plays a large role.

While it is true the Republicans received a wake-up call last night, the fact of the matter is that several of the seats they picked up were from Conservative Dems like Joe Lieberman. Don't expect major change. Joe will rally other conservative Dems to keep up the fight against terrorism by siding with the Repubs in the narrowly split Senate.

Other good news for conservatives are the referendums that went our way banning same sex marriage in several states and one state banning abortion altogether.

It appears the message was that America wanted change, perhaps as to the tactics in the war on terror, but still cling to their conservative views. Look to Joe and others to see this as an opportunity for bi-partisanship in order to meet in the middle on many issues, leaving the extreme right AND the extreme left to lick their wounds.

As a moderate-conservative Republican, I actually think the election results may be a good thing!

All politicians are liars to some degree.

I think the country is in a new direction with democrats controlling. They fight for different people's rights. For the most part Republicans are the champions of the rich and democrats for middle class. They each have different ideas on how to run the country so yes in theory the country is in a new direction, just don't know if it is good or bad.

Whether Democrat or Republican, they are all liars and snakes who will tell you what you want to hear just to get them in office. It's been that way in the past and will always be that way.
If one of these liars is in office and is doing a bad job, it's time to elect a new liar and see what he can do.
The biggest liar and snake out there came from Texas and 2008 can't come soon enough!!

In a way I think you are right but this is what I believe.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely. I mean most of these guys start out with the best of intentions and ideals that changes after they are there a while. We need to change them out once in a while. Personally I believe it is a very rare congressman/woman that maintains their integrity after years of having the power that they do.
I believe that the democrats will do the best that they can to get some changes but there will be quite a lot of compromise. I'm really hoping that they will address this earmark problem. The earmark policy invites corruption.

Either party they have at the Capitol, the majority of them are crooks and liars only to make ends meet for themselves so they can become part of history. This election the Democrats are winning, next election the people will want the Republicans once the Dems screw up...and so the cycle repeats itself.

seem, its no longer that republicans or democrats are incorrect and enforcing incorrect regulations, or events occurring the drain. everytime you're in positions of ability like the democrats at the instant are, and the republicans have been before, there are issues that time-honored civilians dont additionally be attentive to approximately that they'd desire to handle. Im no longer some extraordinary conspiracy freak however the government does handle issues that are tremendously intense up there. as quickly as you start up off discovering approximately those deep dark grimy issues that politicians would desire to handle, the interest differences and you are able to desire to alter your regulations. Politics is a grimy interest, and frequently times you do what you are able to desire to do.

Don't blame you for not trusting anyone as they're all liars. However, it does put some checks and balances in place that weren't there when the Republicans were having a hayday doing their own thing with no one to answer to.
Bush won't be allowed to run amok now, and it's about time the skids were put under him.

I think it will be better for no other reason than that it will be harder to hide the lies. With Republican issues now needing Democratic support to pass and Democratic issues needing white house buy-in to avoid the presidental veto....we might actually get some comprise...an work done for a change.
