Well, not exactly.
I take up new hobbies because I want to learn more, and in that process become a more interesting and informed and creative person.
I better myself because I want to be better.
don't get me wrong, I care a lot about what others think, but I am more motivated by what I want for myself.

nope. I don't really care what others think about me. I have, however, acquired likes for hobbies that I was once uninterested in because I had been around that hobby/lifestyle so much that I started liking it myself..... They really aren't hobbies though...... like watching basketball and skateboarding namely. I'd hung out with people who do that stuff for so long that I decided to give skateboarding a try, too..... granted, this was about four years ago (I'm still with the guy) and I sucked at it, but I gave it a try to see what the hooplah was all about.
I think the things that makes a person interesting are not hobbies, but that person's personality, and how s/he interacts with people around them. I think that I am smart, funny, and a catch. Some people may not think the same thing about me..... I'm positive not everyone I meet thinks that about me. I think that two personalities have to get along for one to think that the other one is interesting.

I have taken up hobbies because it is my passion. I guess it gives me something to talk about, but I'm not doing it to impress anybody (only myself). You seem to be an interesting person based on your questions, engage in things like music and art that make you interesting, and are probably interesting and adventurous in bed according to girls... so you've got everything going for you, Minkus. ;)

I can't say that I've ever done that. I have my hobbies that consist of things I like to do. But not to make myself appear more interesting.

As a teenager I attempted to a couple times but if you don't have an interest it won't last. For example I tried playing the bass guitar but it just wasn't for me.
