Just stop and think for a moment about all the people in this country alone who suffer from any of these conditions:

acquired brain injury
cerebral palsy
spinal injury
parkinsons disease
motor neurone disease
any other disease affecting the neurone system
and lots of other conditions and diseases that can potentially be improved if not healed by the resultant studies of stem cell research.....

Now think about those people's mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, aunties, uncles, grandparents, cousins, children, grandchildren, friends, and all the families and friends of these people.

Now if you realise that people with these conditions are cared for by carers, usually family members and or friends, and consder the lost time at work for other family members who attend to the needs of the person with the condition and pretty soon you will see that many peoples lives are affected not only emotionally and physically but also financially by the burden of caring for a loved one 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

So if sttem cell research could lead to answers that resolved just half of the conditions that it can potentially cure/heal/help that is a huge burden lifted from the shoulders of a heck of a lot of people...

I have never understood the illegal status of stem cell research.

I wait with bated breath for the day that governments around the world realise that with stem cell research the governments can ad will save a heck of a lot of money..... though the savings will come in the future... and not during the term of the present government (hence their lack of enthusiasm at approving such a research program. if instant results could be promised they would jump at the potential for such a miracle cure)

Spend a dollar now to save a hundred in the future.

Spend a dollar now to save a lot of pain and suffering for many hundreds of thousands of people for generations to come....

I applaud the South Australian Government for legalising this research.

I would encourage other governments to do the same.

I think most people would be for it if they were educated more on it. For example, many people think that embryonic stem cells come form abortions, when they really come from left over embryos that have never been inside a woman's womb. I bet you get at least three answers saying "no because it kills babies".

I am very excited at the possibilities of stem cell research.

I think everyone is ok with stem cell research. the issues in the US is tax dollars when the stem cell research esp when cloning or use of fertilized eggs are done.

Full steam ahead! I don't think a clump of in-cognizant cells qualifies as a reason not to take a promising road toward potentially curing many diseases.

There is no reason for it to be illegal, and there is no reason the government should fund this research either.
