I always thought of "Flip-Flopping" as another term for "learning" and that is something the current crop of Republicans can't seem to do.

Anyone who will not change his opinion to adjust to new information is just a pighead.

And it's a cheap political stunt to call a legislator a flip-flopper. They vote on so many bills with so many different details that, neglecdting to look at these details, they can pretend that a legislator is both for and against the same thing.

they are different things.. the propaganda machine wanted people to see the dems as flip-flopping.. but flip-flopping is changing your mind and vote repeated times based on your surroundings... whereas adapting to the situation is a change of mind rather than letting people make your mind up for you.

no. you can't you be for abortion and then the next week be against. that is flip-flopping. being for or against something in principle and the clarifying yourself is adapting. i.e. i am against abortion except in the case of rape, incest or endangering the life of the mother. the term is over used like "stay the course"

i call it having an open mind. you could say half the politicians and majority of americans flip flopped on their support of iraq, or you could say they realized it was a mistake.

convincing a close minded neocon of this is impossible.. dont even try... cause they are always right, and there is no other choices.

The term implies more than adaptation though - It implies not having strong beliefs on a subject, or being fickle in your support of a particular standpoint.

yes. Some people have this idea that if you stand behind a wrong decision long enough.... Like Oh... I don't know ..... That everyone will say.... Golly gee you are right and we should just do it because we said we are going to do it. Never mind the consequences of our actions. THANK GOD THERE IS A GOOD VOTING MOVEMENT!

Adapting? LOL. One adapts to benefit oneself to his/her surroundings. One ought not impact his/her constituents when doing this. Nor does "adapting" mean that the truth can be bent at any time for any reason (i.e., John Kerry).
