The heart beat is quicker so they know it is having an issue.

My baby was in distress during labor. It means the baby is having problems usually during contractions. For me the placenta was not supporting the baby well after contractions and they almost took her by c-section. They told me they would give me 3 pushes and i did it with the help of a vacuum. Her heart beat dropped after and during contractions. its supposed to drop during contractions not after. Also meconium in the womb is a indication the baby is in distress but not always. That is their first poop, and usually they dont poop that till they are born, for me she pooped in the amniotic fluid.

usually it means that the babys heartrate keeps dropping. or if you are in labor when told this, the baby could possibly not be handling the contractions well and the heartrate is dropping.
