Come to think of it, you don't see that butt slapping in any sports as often as you used to. Its one of those things I've never even thought about until reading this question. Hmm! My guess is its a cultural thing, and no longer falls within the norms of decent, straight behavior. I know when I used to play ball, I would slap an occasional butt when one of the guys had a good play, and I never thought anything of it. ..and yes, I'm married and straight. I think people are more homophobic now than what they used to be.

I prefer teh butt slap with a small tickle at the end. It makes me feel good about my accomplishment, and a little giddy at the same time.
As far as the homophobe people on here. It isn't gay. The person is not slapping the but for personal gratification or sexual intention.
Some people like it, some don't mind it, some people don't like it. It's just a personal decision.

9 months together, those large trips, showering together, watching the naked butts of each other in the lockers, the spring training.... something gay has to come out right?
Al least is better (less gay) than the kiss on the lips that Maradona gave Claudio Caniggia in the world cup soccer in 1990 after a goal.

Well, the question of macho posing is one thing, but the other is that its negative old school. Canseco/McGwire's arm bashes started the trend to be creative. It's the eqivalent to a touchdown celebration.

I'm not sure come to think of it I never did that in baseball either. However we do stuff like that in football all the time. I would guess either tradition or superstitions.
