In general, Americans forgot how destructive the liberal democrats were to the concept of Art4, Sec4, of the Constitution. The first year of this two year cycle will re-open eyes across America and in all likely hood insure a Republican president and congress in 2008.

With a recession in full swing in America and the media ignoring it for the last 4 years I can only predict that the new house will get the blame over the next two years as the new math and statistics will show how bad the economy is once you take away the 500 billion that each year has helped maintain some growth in the markets .
Artificial profits proped up by government spending at an alarming rate has sheilded man Americans from the shift in our economy . I see very shaky times ahead for Americans regardless of who is in charge .The only reason the intrest rates did not climb and gas prices dropped was an effort to maintain republicans in office .
This having failed the true deepth and scope of this recession will be focused on in a few months .Right after January the first .One more big spending spree at christmas before the shet hits the fan

It's entirely possible. A time away from the limelight does wonderful things for self-reflection. As well, should congress be deadlocked, there's a reasonable chance that the public may blame the Democrats rather than the GOP, and return the Republicans to power in '08

maybe so if they are smart and they are smart.
they can let the dems take the fall for all the problems bush created and then castigate them in 2008 for not solving them all.
Our coffers have been looted and there is no money to pay the bills so the dems may wish to raise taxes to balance the budget. people hate this. the repubs spent all the money and borrowed more so now there is no money and big debt. this should make the dems fail and get blamed and put the republicans back in 08
This was really the ideal time to bail out for awhile.
The war will still be raging so the repubs can blame the dems and say they failed to have a plan to end the war and we would have finished it if only we could have "stayed the course". There will be 2,000 more dead americans and 10,000 more wounded. it is Win/Win for the repubs if they spin it right ( and they will baby they will)
ain't politics fun? ( but not for the troops)
it is just a big monopoly game to Rove and his chicken hawk corporate pals.

I certainly hope so. They seem to have forgotten how they gained control of Congress in the first place.
They've forgotten that they gained with the Contract with America, not with high spending or government growth. When DeLay said that all the fat had already been trimmed from that infamously pork-laden highway bill last year (the 'bridge to nowhere' bill), it was a sign that they'd forgotten what got them elected.
It was infuriating to watch these guys spend like drunken sailors, then tell me there was no more fat to trim! They deserved their losses - they earned them. Maybe they need to reflect on what got them elected and what got them fired.
If they do not embrace conservatism, they will remain a bridesmaid.

If the moderates take over, it will be a good thing for the Republican party and the nation.

Hopefully, it will lead to the purgation of the corrupt and the extremists of the party and a return to an agenda that is good for everybody. That's not just good for the party, it's good for America.

Only if they see the lesson of this election is that they must move back toward the center. They put themselves so far out on the right wing that they lost that center. Rove's theory that only the base matters is proven wrong, and with it his genius reputation.

YES!!! I belive the religious right has loosened the death grip on the republicans , and now they can start acting like conservatives! Spend less, stay out of the doctor's office and the bedroom, liberty for all, etc...just like Goldwater. At least that is my hope!
