income tax became law in 1913, when the sixteenth amendment was enacted. It violates parts of the constitution and the declaration of independance, both of which claim that freedom means that we should be able to keep all of the fruits of our labor or earnings.

first of all, check out this site.. http://www.fff.org/comment/ed0900b.asp
second of all, cassandra you're a dumbass for assuming I dont realize the importance of having tax
third of all, when the constitution was written, it didn't give the federal government the power to levy taxes on income, and this was no accident. we can conclude that they opposed an income tax, also, if you do some research, you'll see that our founding fathers did in fact beleive that our income should be ours and ours alone, when the government has the power to take even a portion of our worth, then they have the power to control us. this is not freedom..
finally.. taxes are necessary, we need to get things done... however, we would need much less taxes if the taxes we did have were used correctly.. we could do without an income tax and still maintain all those things that make this country great.

There is no provision in either document you cite which says keeping all the fruits of our earnings is a part of freedom.
Now, our founding fathers were involved in colony govts before they were involved in rebellion. In Virginia, our house of burgesses provided money every year to every widow and orphan. We also applied our tax money to construction projects for the common good. We also had courts to help protect our rights.
When we had our revolution, we were opposed to taxation WITHOUT representation, we were not opposed to taxation. We never have been.
You have a pretty limited view of humanity and our responsibility to create a just society. Plus, you seem to be basing it on parts of our founding documents which don't exist.

You are sooooooooo wrong. Since the Constitution was amended, that makes the tax fully Constitutional. Moreover, Article I, Section 8, of the original, unamended Constitution says "Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises..." You will search in vain in the Constitution for the word "capitalism". The Constitution is both religiously and economically blind: it does not guarantee Christianity or capitalism, and does not prohibit socialism or communism.
How do you think the roads, the police, the army, the food and drug safety, etc., etc., etc., all get paid for, if not from taxes?

income tax is what keeps the government alive.where do you think that money goes?our taxes pay for schools so you could have an education, streets and highways to drive on,parks to relax and enjoy and most of all social security so you can have some money to retire on.if you didn't pay taxes we would be like iraq was living under a dictatorship.it pays for hospitals ,fire departments, police departments military to keep us safe.i could go on and on,the list is endless.it says it on the money you earn, IN GOD WE TRUST. without it you would be living in dirt.think again my friend be glad we have a government.living in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IS NOT A CONVIENCE ITS A PRIVLAGE.thats what the statue of liberty stands for.FREEDOM.you better take your head off and screw it back on right,i think you have some threads crossed. good luck. pete i'm not cutting you down or making fun of you,I'm just trying to help you understand and realize how good you have it here.i hope i made i difference.

There are many people who agree with you! Some are in jail!
When income tax was passed it was promised it would never exceed 2% of any ones income!
We do need taxes, just where do we stop and how they are spent is the issue!

They put you in a Cage if you don't pay... Yes we need some tax but not the huge percentage that we pay now. They tax our pay checks first , then they tax our groceries our cars our clothes and everything else we buy...Sounds like double taxation to me.

yes, because i like things like public education, roads, banking system, defense, police, fire, universities, and other things my tax dollars fund. it is a way of getting together to build things that are too big for one company or person to finance, but that we all need.
like bridges or spacecraft. you use the "commonwealth" like roads to get to your job to make money. you use government regulation (all kinds of laws) to protect your life while you make money. drop you in the middle of the desert and you couldn't make a dime. you need others and the infrastructure provided by investments of taxes.
