As a welder I haven't made minimum wage in many years.I have been very fortunate with my finances and I was wondering how many people in this country actually do make minimum wage or slightly above.

In my small community, they have us "over a barrel" with the job market...that's all you can find...and parttime jobs at that! It's horrible for us mountain dwellers.

It's more common than we think. I applied at a department store, the job was for assistant manager. At the interview I was told the job paid minimum wage. That blew my mind away.

From what I have seen, yes, it is very common to make minumum wage or just slightly above it at retail stores.
