Tristan or Tristram (which is Welsh for sad)

Wasn't sure if you were after a surname too ... however, if his surname was to continue the theme of him being sad, loney & desparing of life, then perhaps you could adapt one of the Chamoru names for him?

There are a load of names, relating to despair, that the people took after their subjegation by the Spanish.

eg:
Taingatonga - no friendship, no pleasantness
or Anajo - defeat

So - how about Tristan Tain (Tayne) or Jo Tong or Joseph Gaton or Tristram Anatain? Or some combination

But there are loads of words there - they might spark some inspiration for a different name entirely. Good luck with the novel.

Finn -- Wonderful Irish name.

Evgeny -- Russian form of Eugene.

Victor -- I just like this one.

Jack -- World's best all-purpose name.

Johnny -- World's second-best all-purpose name.

Bram -- If he's dark and brooding. Or a vampire.

Spider -- This is a legitimate name. Another Irish one.

Ralph -- You don't get enough Ralphs these days. If you want to be cool, pronounce it "Rafe."

Edward -- We don't get enough Edwards, either.

For future reference, if you're looking for an odd but useable name, look into ethnic variants. "Enya" for Anna, "Mikael" rather than Michael. It's pretty useful sometimes.

Good luck with your book!
