People just look for things to complain about.

Because many people have been taught the mistaken idea that the Civil War was about slavery. Since most (not all ) the slave holding states were in the south people understandably but erroneously connect the Confederate flag with this institution. The Civil War was about individual states rights vs. strong central government first and foremost. Lincoln himself said ( I paraphrase) that if he could win the war without freeing a single slave he would do so & if he could win the war by freeing all the slaves he would do so. Ending slavery was a wonderful byproduct of the war , even large numbers of people in the north that were against slavery didn't consider blacks to be equal.

I have tremendous respect for the courage and fighting ability of the Confederate forces, even though I disagree with their cause, but the Confederate flag is considered "racial" because it has been appropriated by racists as their symbol.

Consider the swastika. It was used as a symbol, usually of postive things, and as an artistic motif for several thousand years before the Nazis came along and adopted it as their own. Now the swastika has become inextricably linked with the hatred and racism of the Nazis.

In much the same way the Confederate Battle Flag (which, by the way is not the "Stars and Bars," as is commonly thought) has been adopted by various hate groups as their symbol, and although that banner has not yet become quite as tainted as the swastika, it is becoming harder to separate it from the philosophy of those who would use it as their standard.

So, for those of you who would characterize as ignorant people who object to the display of the Confederate flag, perhaps you should redirect your criticisms to the truly ignorant who have stained your banner with hatred and bigotry.

because it has been associated with the oppression of African Americans and slavery.
The flag you refer to is the "stars and bars" which was used to identify Confederate battle lines during battle and has been incorrectly identified as the confederate flag...the flag that flew over the Confederate capital (the true confederate flag) has more of a resemblance to the Texas state flag than the stars and bars flag.
In addition one reason people associate the stars and bars with racism is ...after the 1954 supreme court decision outlawing school segregation southern states like Georgia changed the design of their state flag to include the stars and bars as an act of defiance to the Federal Government.

The KKK adapted the flag as their own. Now, many/most people equate the flag with racism rather than the original battle flag of the Confederate Army.

well, it could be seen as a symbol of the southern states history and pride, some of which was good and some bad, with some being more proud than others. The problem with the confederate flag, and racism, is that the loudest and most obnoxious groups to use it are the most racist.

To some, it symbolizes the oppression of Blacks, back to the days when the South embraced Slavery.

To most of us however, it merely symbolizes a part of our history when our country was divided by a different set of idealogies. We can't rewrite history and the confederacy was a part of our history.

Thank the KKK and their lynchings of blacks.... Myself, i see the bonnie blue as the representation of the valor, courage....and doomed cause as depicted by the charge up Cemetery Ridge by the Virginia regiments of Pickett's Division...but that's just me.

Because if you look closely at the flag, in each of the stars, you'll find an inscription reading...

"I hate blacks and I don't like cats either"
