Several of the gains made by Democrats were by conservative democrats. Joe Lieberman, a registered and caucased Dem, ran against his own party's nominee as an independant... and WON! Joe is a conservative Dem that supports the cause of fighting terror. So if the war in Iraq is the cause for the shift in power, why were conservatives elected? While a majority of Americans feel things are going wrong in Iraq, they still understand the reason we are there. We are NOT supporting the Dem's idea of passing the baton of victory to the terrorists, but instead, want to be open-minded that we need a new strategy that will better ensure victory.
Another gleeming hope for Republicans is the fact that referendums this election tend to favor conservatism. Several states banned same sex marriage. One state banned abortion. Basically, while there was a cry for change in power, a majority of Americans still cling to conservative views.
Watch for Joe Lieberman to rally other Conservative Dems in the Senate. Should the VA seat fold to a Dem, the control they hoped for is still not locked. Joe and a handfull of Conservative Dems will still swing a good deal of power to the President on issues of the war on terrorism.

That is beautiful and you know something, if more talked like you, America would be back to the greatest nation ever!!
I thank you for being so loving and gracious.
We all need to remember how much we need each other and I agree, we need to keep some of these Dems in line - Dems don't get upset, you know it's true - as well as keeping the Republicans in line, we ALL need to do our part keeping each other in line and not carry on with all this petty BS.
The balance is finally here, now pray they do the right thing by the people and get us out of the mess we have had to endure for the last 6 years.
America can't be great if we are at each others throats. We must stand United or we will fall flat on our faces and guess who will win in the long run. We don't want to go there, so pull together and chins up :)

Hell no, don't be gracious. Now you are in the opposition, keep up the fight. It makes politics much more interesting if folks are fighting. For 6 years, we have had the GOP running things and finally in 2006 (Praise the Lord) the rascals have been shown the door. We have seen how a one party government can screw up the country. One of the things that made Clinton's tenure so good was there was a constant friction between the executive and the legislative branch. No one had too much power. With the Bush government, we have witnessed what absolute power can do. The Making of a Fiasco" will be the Bush legacy.

i think of maximum persons of Wallaby followers can surrender because of the fact the defeat replaced into justified. The All Blacks deserved their win and that i'm hoping they bypass directly to win the basically good against the froggies. The eire interest replaced right into a distinctive subject, with the scrum penalised various cases the place it relatively is going to no longer have been, The Irish have been waiting to construct up momentum and for this reason a lead. this is genuine the Irish deserved that win too, yet there replaced into that little flicker of doubt, what could have been had the Wallabies had some calls bypass their way. This AB interest did no longer have that doubt, they held absolute ascendancy, and so have been the undisputed winners. sturdy success next week NZ.

Democrats are Americans too.
Everyone should always be gracious in defeat when they are defeated by other Americans. Its not a WAR between them.
Hopefully your GOP will learn from this and get away from the NeoCons and Religious Nuts. Maybe then there could be actual dialog between Republicans and Democrats to really figure out whats best for middle America.
Then America will once again be the greatest nation in the world.

Do you pray when you check into the hotel with your mistress or other lovers .
Maybe you pray when you get your paycheck and drive to the bank that today no homeless guy will ask you for help .
Maybe you pray that the abortion clinic will close without first changing the economy so that working people can raise a child .
Everything republicans have done is complain and claim lowering taxes and cutting services will make America a better place .
Tell that to the woman who had her husband walk out because it was just to much to handle on his income and no matter how hard he tried you all could not make it .
Maybe if republicans truly cared about their fellow man without controling his every thought and movement then you could do something to help .
It is your immediate gratification and controlling nature that has led to the level of poverty in America .Also that sense of overpaying yourselfs because you have an education and feel superior to everyone else .
Lucky for some of us that democrats got educated also and will work to save their fellow man and increse taxes to pay the debt off and provide for those who can not provide for themselves .

As a democrat, I wanted to thank you for your honesty. Obviously there is a pattern going on though. In the last Presidential election it seemed that most of the nation was republican but during a simple local election like this one, most of the nation has turned democrat. Obviously there is a reason for that, and that would be George Bush. Its about time the democrats won the house and hopefully they can keep George Bush in line!

I was to be as gracious as the next person in my party's defeat and yet the more and more the night rolled on, more Dem's were gloating and flaunting and doing all the things that would piss anyone off. So I decided I'd just bite my tounge and go to bed instead of starting a flame war

I can't speak for everyone else, but I can say thank you. I can also tell you that the nation NEEDS the Conservative point of view to be the best it can be. WE need both sides giving input to find the BEST solutions for the issues that we face in the future. Too far left is just as bad as too far right. I think we have seen both over the years. WE are all citizens of a Great Nation, and I think it is time to work TOGETHER to go forward.
BTW: the GOP did win in my state (TEXAS) and I will hold them accountable.
