First one
------------
12 = 10 - x
Take 10 from both sides
12 -10 = -x
2 = -x
Make both side negative
-2 = x
x = -2

Second
----------
1-9=y+2
-8 = y + 2
Take 2 from both sides
-8 - 2 = y
-10 = y
y = -10

Third
-------
You're right.

2x + 4 = 6
Take 4 from both sides
2x + 4 - 4 = 6 - 4
2x = 6 - 4
2x = 2
Dividing both sides by 2
x = 1

An equation is just something where the 2 sides are known to be equal. If you alway perform the same operation on the 2 sides, you keep them equal and correct. The operation can be adding or subtracting a particular number, multiplying/dividing by a particular number, making both sides a negative version of what each one was before (also called 'inverting' both sides). The operations you perform use whatever number it takes to move part of one side over to the other to simplify the equation and find x or y.

For example, if x + 7 = 9, subtract 7 from both sides so that

x + 7 - 7 = 9 - 7
x = 9 - 7
x = 2

12 = 10 - x first subtract 10 from both sides
2= -x then divide both sides by -1 (-x is the same as -1x)
-2=x

1-9 = y+2 first do 1-9
-8=y + 2 then subtract 2 from both sides
-10 = y

you're exactly right on the last problem

the sum of twice a number and 4 equals 6
the sum of twice a number and 4 is (2x+4)
equals 6.... 2x+4=6
subtract 4 from both sides.... 2x=2
divide both sides by 2
x=1

good luck!

12=10-x subtract 10 from each side
2=-x multiply by -1
x=-2

1-9=y+2

subtract 2 from each side & combine constants
-10=y or
y=-10

The sum of twice a number and 4 equals 6 Do I say 2x+4=6 then 2x=6-4 and 2x=2 so x=1
YES! I think you've got it!

Yeah, x = 1
Now I'll solve the other two equations.
Answer 1:
12=10-x
10 - x = 12
-x = 12-10
-x = 2
x = -2

Answer 2:
1-9=y+2
y + 2 = 1 - 9
y + 2 = -8
y = -8-2
y = -10

Your problem is not feasible. I suppose that you have forgotten the symbols x or y in one of the equations

if not x = -2

and y = -10

You really should open a book. You can't expect to learn algebra by having other people do your homework for you.
